THE PODCAST | 1:1 COACHING | INSTAGRAM
I’m continually amazed by the transformative power of self-reflection. Recently, I had the privilege of coaching someone whose story perfectly illustrates how life’s biggest challenges can become catalysts for profound personal growth.
When Life Forces a Reset
My client’s world turned upside down when her husband became severely disabled from COVID. With six children to care for and their previous life plan shattered, she didn’t just start a new chapter – as she put it, she “started a whole new book in another library.” Yet within this chaos, she found strength she never knew she possessed.
The Hidden Weight of Past Programming
Through our self-reflection work together, we uncovered how childhood messaging can shape our adult experiences. Even while achieving remarkable success – building a thousand-member women’s group and exceeding her previous household income – those early limiting beliefs still whispered: “Do you deserve to be here?”
Breaking Through the “Not Enough” Narrative
One of the most powerful moments in our session came when we explored what she would tell her younger self. The immediate response was simple but profound: “They were wrong.” This exercise in self-reflection revealed how we often give others grace we deny ourselves.
The Science of Self-Care
What struck me most was how self-care isn’t about grand gestures or day-long retreats. For someone managing a complex life with multiple responsibilities, self-care might look like:
- Two minutes of intentional breathing in the garage before entering home
- Morning routines that ground us for the day ahead
- Small moments of acknowledgment for our accomplishments
Creating New Neural Pathways
The brain processes roughly 70,000 thoughts daily, with most being repeats from the day before. This is why intentional self-reflection and positive programming are crucial. We can’t just remove negative thoughts – we need to actively replace them with empowering ones.
Beyond Traditional Healing
While therapy helps us process the past, coaching focuses on moving forward. Through self-reflection, we can acknowledge our wounds while building new patterns of thinking. It’s not about denying our struggles but about choosing where to direct our energy.
The Path Forward
The journey of self-reflection isn’t about reaching a destination of perpetual positivity. It’s about building awareness of our thoughts and choosing different responses. Sometimes that means:
- Writing down daily wins, no matter how small
- Creating personalized affirmations that genuinely resonate
- Taking micro-moments throughout the day to check in with ourselves
A Final Thought on Self-Reflection
What I love most about coaching is witnessing someone recognize their own strength. Through guided self-reflection, we often discover that we’re not actually stuck – we’re just viewing our situation through an outdated lens.
Remember: You deserve to be here. You’ve earned your place. And sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause, breathe, and acknowledge how far we’ve come.
If you’re ready to explore how coaching and self-reflection can transform your mindset, I invite you to reach out. Sometimes the greatest growth comes from having someone witness our journey and reflect back our strength.
